How to get to Chestnut Nature Park by Public Transport - Detailed Guide

Do you think Chestnut Nature Park is very inaccessible? Well, you're not alone.

As a Bukit Panjang Resident and a regular Chestnut Nature Park hiker, I am attempting to provide you with a detailed explanation on how to reach Chestnut Nature Park using my familiarity with the area.

Chestnut Park
Before we start, you have to know that there are three trails (Northern Loop, Southern Trail and Nature Trail) and a Chestnut Point where parking, toilets and bike rentals are at. Chestnut park have two possible entrances, one from the Northern Loop via Bangkit Hut, and another from Chestnut Point.
It depends on where you want to start and end, or if you want to eat before (Option 1) or after the hike (Option 2).

- Map to be updated -

Note: Both options can be reached if you're coming from Bukit Panjang MRT or Pending LRT

Option #1: You want to start from Bangkit Hut at Northern Loop, and ends at Chestnut Point

This is the easiest option, and you can have breakfast first at Bukit Panjang Hawker Centre before starting the trail with this option.

From Bukit Panjang MRT, either take "LRT to Pending station" or "bus 963 at BP MRT Exit B to Blk 270 (6 stops away)".

From Pending station, you can either walk or take buses 171, 983, 960 to blk 276 (one bus-stop away, see map below). There is a small entrance towards Zhenghua Park. You continue to walk straight under BKE and you will enter Chestnut Park via Bangkit Hut.

If you are adventurous enough to try and take buses from wherever you are directly to blk 270 (Bukit Panjang is VERY accessible by buses), there are numerous buses available at blk 270 / opposite blk 270: 171, 187, 190, 960, 963, 966, 972.

Refer for Option #2A & B below for maps on how to get from Chestnut Point to civilisation. You will go to Opposite blk 201 to take 966, 973, 700, 700A to Pending LRT or 973 to Bukit Panjang MRT Station.

# 2A & B: If you want to start at Chestnut Point / hike Bukit Panjang Park, and ends at Bangkit Hut at Northern Loop...
I don't recommend you to start at Chestnut Point unless necessary due to the long and confusing uphill hike.

#2A is a straight-forward long uphill hike

Take 973 from Bukit Panjang MRT or 966, 973, 700, 700A from Pending LRT entrance and stop at Blk 202.
Walk towards Eco Sanctuary Condo and commence the uphill hike at the small road in between Eco Sanctuary Condo  and Tree House Condo.

If you end at the Northern Loop, you may exit at Bangkit Hut and have a meal at Bukit Panjang Hawker Centre, before taking LRT at Pending station or 963 at Pending station exit to Bukit Panjang MRT (Refer to Option #1 for map).

Option B (via Bukit Panjang Park) gives you a shorter uphill hike, but it can be confusing

I strongly recommended you to have a short hike at Bukit Panjang Park as it's beautiful. But this option to Chestnut Park can be confusing.

Again, take 973 from Bukit Panjang MRT or 966, 973, 700, 700A from Pending LRT entrance and stop at Blk 202. Walk towards Bukit Panjang Park.

At Bukit Panjang Park, climb up the stairs, walk towards a playground/exercise corner -> a concrete stage -> a grass open space beside vegetation -> you will see a pavement in front of you and turn right. On your left, take note of a small exit, where you will then walk to a main road, towards zhenghua flyover and then climb uphill to chestnut point

Again, if you end at the Northern Loop, you may exit at Bangkit Hut and have a meal at Bukit Panjang Hawker Centre, before taking LRT at Pending station or 963 at Pending station exit to Bukit Panjang MRT (Refer to Option #1 for map).

Lastly, you can always start and end at the same place (i.e. you can eat before and after the hike :p ) , so alter the options to suit yourself.

Enjoy!

 Aria2 Home @ Hualien, Taiwan

Cost: around SGD$100 per night for a room for three (with breakfast)
Location:  No.12, Aly. 5, Ln. 21, Guoxing 6th St., Hualien City, Hualien, Taiwan, 97054
Size of accommodation: Bigger than a standard hotel room size. For 3, with a balcony

Location: 3.5/5. It's at a private housing area. Very near Hualien TRA station, but a bit of distance from Dongdaemun district and qixingtan (sea area). Thus, will need to call cab and the driver might not know this place. You have to read out the address to them. The minsu has a working relationship with one of the taxi company that gives you a cheaper cab ride, but you need to have a phone to call.
Cleanliness: 4/5.
Host(s): Extremely hospitable hosts and staff that made us feel at home. The staff were so passionate about introducing us to all the food they think were good. They even packed us some breakfast after knowing we were having an early day and will miss their homemade breakfast. Do have their homemade breakfast! They incorporated local famous food in and it's delicious!
Design: 5/5. That's why i chose the minsu (aka local's home). The design was beautiful and elaborated.
Facilities: high end furniture and electrical appliances in the room. wifi everywhere in the minsu. Has lift. Has free cup noodles.
Additional comments:
  • Free facial masks when we checked out, such a surprise!
  • free shuttle from Hualien TRA station

[Food Recommendation] Kenting Street Night Market, Taiwan

A quick tip is to join the queue.

There's a number of recommended food at Kenting Street Night Market, and here are some of them:

Aboriginal pork meat. It was OK, i do not find anything special about it

Gao Liang Taiwanese Sausage. If you love alcohol, you'll love it. It's quite special to taste gao liang wine in the middle of the meat.

Abalone. Eat it!!! It's 3 for SGD $5. it's not rubbery, very nice!

Scallop. Eat it!!!!! It's 3 for SGD $5 as well!! And it's super tender!!!

Don't forget your Taiwanese beer. Recommended the pineapple flavour.

[Accomodation Review] Jing Guan Hotel, Kenting, Taiwan

Don't be fooled by the old exterior of the hotel, the room was super pretty.

Please be reminded to close the curtain before you bathe/shower/do your business

The view from the balcony

The signature stone

Breakfast: Oriental (Don't be deceived. there was lots of conch in the porridge)

Breakfast: Western. It was bacon in between the breads.

View when you eat breakfast

There was a free shuttle to any places within 5km of hotel between 9am to 10pm. That means attractions like:
Eluanbi lighthouse
Kenting Street
Southernmost Point
Sheding Nature Park
Kenting Forest Recreation Area

There's no need to prebook. You can just call/wechat the hotel and they will send driver to pick you up.

It was a good deal for us as we did not hire a driver nor drive. Plus, we did not plan to venture far within this 2D1N.

[Accommodation Review] Kindness Hotel, kaohsiung station chen chien

It is just opposite Kaohsiung MRT station.

Upon reaching the hotel, the reception staff will bow and greet you. They did it every time i walked into the lobby, and even bowed when i walked into the lift. Even the cleaning staff took time to greet us when we walked past. They were that courteous.  By far, the professionalism and politeness of the staff were the factor that fascinated me the most.

The room

The design of room was nothing fantastic. That said, it being a business hotel, i was not expecting anything fancy with the look of the room.

The hotel had a spread of breakfast and supper.
- The breakfast spread was good. It had vegetarian area, taiwanese food and western. It had a variety of tea bags as well
- Supper spread was ok. It had some taiwanese food like dan zai noodle, lu rou fan, beancurd, buns, lotus rice, fruits and ice cream.
- oh, and it had a soy ice cream machine just next to the lift. you can take it 24/7. However, it was rather tasteless.

My apologies, i did not have much photos this time round as i was bringing my parents (hard to multitask)

[Bintan Canopi 2017] Glamping!

Website for booking is here: http://www.thecanopi.com/

The water were blue and clear, the tent was comfortable, the food was good and there's a lot of water and land activities (before 5pm) which costs money...

It was a fun trip!

[Taiwan Trip 2016] Day 5 - Taichung

This was my favourite day as there were a lot of surprises. We did not do any planning and just go with the flow. We didn't even have a driver, and was lucky enough to have this driver to accompany us for the whole day. He was very honest and accommodating. You might want to consider him the next time you go Taichung. (Mr Zhan +886 983 025 733)

We went to Rainbow village, Eye Hospital for ice cream, walked around some shopping district (and asked the locals to recommend nice food!), bought a sock bunny at Cao Wu Dao (it's very nice), took lots of photos at Zhong She Hua Shi (highly recommended) and went to kaomei wetland for sunset
